I came just a few short months ago, hurt, lost, confused and angry; but more importantly, doubtful. Because of the members in this room, their stewardship, their humanity, I was able to make a very, very hard choice to believe again
Overview
A Gospel Reflection group is a one hour weekly gathering of either humble men and/or women, where a universal Gospel reading, from one of the four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke or John) is read. After a brief moment of reflection, a spontaneous sharing of how this Gospel reading impacted the participants hearts, relative to their lives today, ensues.
It is important to understand that this is NOT a Bible study, there is one Teacher, the Holy Spirit. The facilitator of the group merely acts as the coordinator of the prayers and the hour, but does not teach. Participants open up and share their response to the Gospel reading, if they choose to. Real life stories, struggles and events are usually shared as the Holy Spirit inspires each individual.
Pastors and Priests are invited to be a part of the group however, it is encouraged that they are not the facilitator as that may inhibit the sharing of others. The universal Gospel reading will be provided to any group so that no matter where you are in the world, the same Gospel reading is broken open and thus you may join in any group anywhere. We believe it is important that all groups stay connected throughout the world as the Gospel reflection groups grow so that access to them may be made available to all those searching.
We have chosen a template which today includes separate Men’s and Women’s groups as well as Mixed groups as this time of reflection is also a time of sharing personal struggles and life challenges. We do not want to inhibit the sharing and bonding of brothers and sisters in Christ.
The Gospel reflection groups are open to all Christians and those searching for Christ. These groups are to be an instrument in the healing of the one Body of Christ in answer to Christ’s prayer.
Gospel Reflection Groups vary in size from 10 to 40 members. Meeting at a consistent location and time, members commit to an hour-long session once a week. Meetings are comprised of formal prayer, scripture, reflection and open sharing and are a way for men and women to both find support and learn from each others’ life experiences in an open, welcoming, supportive environment. Gospel Reflection Groups are for anyone who is searching for Christ and who wants to grow in their relationship with Christ by the breaking open of the Bread of Life, the Word of God.
Meetings, though taking place across the country, and around the world, have root in a universal source: The Gospel. Each week, the same Gospel passage will be shared and reflected upon by all Gospel Reflection Groups, no matter their geographical location. In addition to following a common Gospel reflection each week, meetings also follow the same format in all locations:
