Catholic School Faculty Development Activities & Scholarships
CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOLS INITIATIVE for the DIOCESE OF HARRISBURG:
SUMMARY of FACULTY DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES & SCHOLARSHIPS
Stewardship: A Mission of Faith has as its mission to “feed the Lord’s sheep, tend His sheep, and feed His lambs,” and not let money stand in the way. The media displays in Churches and Schools are one way that the mission is carried out. In discussions with Bishop Gainer, David Abel, the founder of Stewardship, offered to “come along side the Diocesan Catholic high schools” with additional resources, events and scholarship funds to help them strengthen their Catholic roots, and to help strengthen their relationships with the partner schools and parishes of their deaneries. Bishop was very excited about the proposed Catholic Schools Initiative. He has given his blessing to offer each of the Catholic High Schools the faith-building activities, resources and financial support proposed in Stewardship’s Catholic Schools Initiative.
The first stage involves two activities, Stewardship of Leadership and Gospel Reflection. These are weekly activities designed to help enrich and strengthen the faith of faculty and students. They provide the foundation to build upon with the other resources and events that will be offered in the near future. Each of the activities encourage faculty members to join together weekly to break open the Word of God, and share their reflections with their small group. Short scripture passages are read, and reflected upon in a prayerful setting.
Stewardship of Leadership encourages leaders to share their reflections around topics pertaining to leadership — in the workplace, at home, and in the community.
Gospel Reflection prayerfully probes the depth of this coming Sunday’s gospel. This activity is proposed for faculty to engage students, and challenge them to take their reflections home, and share them with parents, and other family members.
These two Stewardship activities are made available at no cost to the school, and with scholarship support for faculty who choose to participate in, and lead, the weekly activities. A development scholarship of $250 a quarter for each activity engaged in, will be awarded to faculty, staff, administrator, and coach, who desire to grow in their faith by participating in, and leading one or more of these activities.
These activities are offered on a voluntary basis for those who would like to deepen their Catholic faith, and encourage students, family and friends to grow as well.
