A Letter from the Founder of
Stewardship: A Mission of Faith

My Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

My name is David Abel and I am the father of fifteen beautiful children. Twelve of these gifts are adopted from around the world. In November of 2004, most anyone looking at me from the outside would have said, “He has it all; a beautiful wife, many wonderful children, he lives in a mansion with all types of worldly toys, has a very successful business and lots of friends!” But they were seeing the mask I wore, and not the total emptiness within my soul. I was out of control and on a crash course for death, which I could not stop.

Our loving God, working through many good people around me, used the key of Stewardship to open my heart. “EVERYTHING we have is a gift from God that we are to use to help others”, was spoken to me by a friend at a parish Stewardship meeting. Those words, inspired by the Holy Spirit, opened my heart and His grace came flooding in! For 46 years I was a check-the-box-Catholic, just going through the motions. Then on the evening of December 10, 2004 the Holy Spirit filled my heart in a profound way. I began to develop an ever-growing, ever-deepening personal and intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. Everything that I do now, as a Catholic, takes me further into my relationship with Him. The level of love, peace and joy the Lord takes me to, on my journey Home, is beyond words.

I am now continually being filled by the Holy Spirit, and the overflow pours into each and every person that God brings into my life. I was once empty but now I am filled with His love and it is ALL due to the grace of God, our Father. I am all in for the Lord and whatever He wants me to do. I now realize I own nothing, but am merely the steward of all the gifts He has bestowed upon, and entrusted to, me. And the greatest of these earthly gifts is my family.

May God Bless each and every one of you, as you say your yes each day, by allowing you to be a blessing to others!

Yours in Christ,

David Z. Abel
